Hike with a Poet Reflections at Kehl Lake

Saturday, October 28th | 10:00am

Poets, like scientists, invite us to pay attention, to notice, and to make connections between things. During these Hike with a Poet experiences, we will carry with us a poem or two by various poets, letting their observations, questions, or musings, as well as the place itself, inspire our own. Poems will primarily be selected from the genre of eco-poetry, a way of noticing that challenges the human/nature binary. Eco-poems ask us, among other things, to consider our relationship with the natural world.

During this hike at Kehl Lake, we will wonder together about the idea of the natural world as a mirror, recall the myth of Narcissus, and also consider the idea of “flow” both in terms of poetry and ecology as we make our way to the lake. There will be plenty of opportunity along the way to simply appreciate the beauty of this remarkable natural area. The hike will be led by two docents, one passionate about poetry, the other about science.

(copies of the poem to be read will be available for all participants at the start of the hike)
