Julie Kuieck - The Leelanau Conservancy

Julie Kuieck - Docent

It is a complete joy to be a docent for the Leelanau Conservancy! I am a Grand Rapids native, now a Leland local, who spent my childhood summers on North Lake Leelanau. My love and curiosity for the outdoors stemmed from leisurely walking the woods and Leelanau shoreline with my grandparents to visit their friends, picking wild raspberries, buttercups and Queen Anne’s Lace while spotting birds along our journey. My dad, an avid fly fisherman and outdoorsman, took me into the woods (and on his fishing boat) all over the county since I was very young.

I have degrees in Interior Design as well as Nursing – far from what I do at the Conservancy – but that is what makes volunteering so enjoyable – Variety is the spice of life! I have been a Conservancy stream sampler since 2019 and became a fully -fledged docent in 2023. You may often spy my daughter out and about with me, she too enjoys helping and learning. Our favorite hikes are Whaleback, Kehl Lake, and Swanson Preserve. Come and join us on a trail sometime!
