David Watkins - The Leelanau Conservancy

David Watkins - Docent

David and his wife Sheen discovered the Leelanau Peninsula area in 2003 and quickly fell in love with the natural beauty of the area. This led them to purchasing property in 2012 and becoming full-time residents in 2019 in Northport.

David has always enjoyed the outdoors and is an avid birder, having started his birding while in college. He earned his degree in education while majoring in biology and furthered his education with a master’s degree in science education and National Board Certification in early adolescent mathematics. His long teaching career in the Detroit area included teaching math and science along with becoming an Instructional Specialist, training teachers. After over 30 years of teaching, it was time to move on to the next chapter. As a retired teacher with a love of the outdoors, it was a natural fit to become a docent and continue sharing the love of learning in an outdoor arena.
