David and his wife, Lisa, started visiting Leelanau in 2009 and retired to their home in Leland in 2015 after a career in the construction industry. David is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. He received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He spent most of his career with General Electric and then Hilti AG, a European construction industry supplier. Working with Hilti brought David and Lisa to years of living in the Rhine valley in Switzerland, rural Cheshire County in northern England and multiple locations in the USA.
Getting to experience the western European model of responsible community development balanced with preservation of natural resources made a lasting impression. When David and Lisa looked for a retirement destination, they hunted for an area with the same kind of balance and happily found it in Leelanau. In addition to supporting the Leelanau Conservancy David works with Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City and the Traverse City Community Garden.
