Join Conservancy docents and staff for an out-and-back paddle to Cedar River Preserve.
We will keep our eyes and ears open for summer residents such as great blue and green herons, wood ducks, loons, etc. We’ll also explore the different microhabitats that support many plant species. If we’re lucky, we may even spy one of the resident beavers, otters or bald eagles!
Where: Meet at Solon Township Beach Park to start our paddle along Lake Leelanau to the mouth of the Cedar River, where we will enter the Preserve.
When: We will meet at 8:00 am to off-load boats, prepare equipment, and park before a quick safety briefing; we will plan to launch at 8:30.
In order to help accommodate varying experience levels and abilities, we will request everyone to stay within 100 meters of each other, with planned stops to regroup and explore the environment.
Bring your own kayak or canoe, PFD required. Plan for about 2 hours on the water. Bring a drink and sunscreen in addition to your boat and PFD. Note: there is no place to disembark during the paddle, but there is a portable toilet at the park.
