Giving Thanks to the Mosses Hike at Kehl Lake Natural Area

Thursday, July 21st | 10:00am

On this walk, we will look at mosses in the Kehl Lake Natural Area through the eyes of Robin Wall Kimmerer. Kimmerer is a mother, scientist, SUNY decorated professor and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Chapters in her first book, Gathering Moss, A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses will provide the foundation for us to explore the soft, yet potent world of mosses. Specifically, we will discuss The Advantages of Being Small: Life in the Boundary Layer, The Web of Reciprocity: Indigenous Uses of Moss, and The Forest Gives Thanks to the Mosses.

Docents Gloria Garrett, Sheen Watkins and David Watkins will be leading this walk. Please apply bug spray liberally to protect yourself from ticks and mosquitos. This hike will be moderate, covering no more than 2 miles.
