Cardinal flower

Submitted on 10/5/10

I had a photo shoot to scout in Leelanau County on Sunday morning so I went over to the Teichner Preserve. Found the cardinal flower and here is one of the images I got. Saw a bird I could not identify too hanging out with a group of chickadees. Mostly dark with a few spots of orange. Not a red winged blackbird though.

Keep up the great work.

    Beautiful flower shot Tom.

Could the bird you saw be an American Redstart? He is likely heading south for winter.

I would also suggest a Rufous-sided Towhee, but they are generally scratching around on the ground and have quite a bit of orange.
