Suzanne Bessette is a Huron Pines AmeriCorps member serving with the Leelanau Conservancy in 2023. She grew up in Ann Arbor and lived in Hawaii, Alaska, and Montana before returning to Michigan and settling down in beautiful northwest Michigan. With both a J.D. and Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from the University of Michigan, Suzanne practiced environmental law in private practice and for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, working mainly on land use issues, renewable energy, and federal fuels and emissions regulations. After leaving legal practice, she has greatly enjoyed teaching as an adjunct instructor of Biology at Northwestern Michigan College. Suzanne enjoys playing in the woods in all seasons, whether biking, skiing, or hiking with one of her four dogs.
