I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love being outside and learning about everything out there! I spent hours wandering and hiking in the woods while growing up. My long term goal, as a kid, was to become a park ranger and lead hikes through the wilderness. That didn’t quite happen, and after receiving my BS in Forestry from Michigan Tech, I spent time working in the forest service, at the MSU Extension, and even in a plant nursery. I became a “professional volunteer” while my kids were growing up, active on the Leelanau County Parks and Rec Commission, as a 4-H leader, and youth soccer administrator.
Trees have always been my favorite, but I love most plants and enjoy learning all about them. I am really excited to be a volunteer docent for the Leelanau Conservancy. Now I can finally lead hikes through beautiful areas and share what I know with others. I also look forward to learning more about birds, geology and all things natural from my fellow docents and hike participants.
