Mae Stier - The Leelanau Conservancy

Mae Stier

Mae Stier is a writer and photographer living in Empire. Her work is deeply inspired by and connected to the region that has become her home, and she is always working to be a better caretaker of the land and water around her. In 2019, Mae self-published a collection of poetry and essays celebrating the region, entitled “Lake Letters.”

Mae moved to the region in 2016, eager to live as close to the shore of Lake Michigan as possible. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing, and in addition to her creative writing pursuits, she is a contributor to the Glen Arbor Sun and a copywriter for area businesses. Mae met her husband after moving to his hometown in Empire, and they live there now with their son and dog. Mae enjoys hiking, cycling, and swimming–anything that allows her to be outside in the beauty of Leelanau County. She is grateful for the opportunity to care for this place as a member of the LC Collective.
