Summer at Whaleback Natural Area — Saturday, July 18 at 10:00 am
Join docents Judy Hoeffler and JoAnne Gerben on a hike up the sometimes steep spine of Whaleback Natural Area, the beautiful Conservancy land just south of Leland. Put your legs to work as we move to the top and let our eyes experience, from the overlook, the beauty of the steep drop to Lake Michigan to our west and, to our east, the distant blue of Lake Leelanau. As we walk on the ridge at the top, enjoying a bit of flat land, we’ll see the Thimbleberries growing, one of the few patches of such fruit seen south of Copper Country in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Enjoy a 90 minute respite from life’s hectic pace in a place of beauty and peace.
