When we go into the woods, sometimes we need to listen to the sounds around us—just walk, not talk.
We’ll do that on this hike at Clay Cliffs, keeping silent as we go from the parking area to the Manitou overlook. There, we can share our experiences of hearing the woods, and then walk on in silence to the benches in the upper meadow, where we can share what we saw, heard, perhaps smelled or touched, as we engage all of our senses.
“In my walks I would fain return to my senses,” Henry David Thoreau wrote. And we’ll seek the same.
Please have sensible shoes, a bottle of water, maybe some bug repellant, and a silenced cell phone.
