Don Gregory – Director

Don and his wife, Ann, have lived in Leelanau County since the early 1970s.  He grew up in Sebewaing, MI, (“the inside hangnail of the Thumb”) and now lives in Suttons Bay, (“the inside hangnail of the little finger”).  Farming under the name Cherry Bay Orchards, Don and his brother, Bob, grow cherries, apples and grapes.  Don has served in many leadership positions in the tart cherry industry throughout his career. He has also served on the Suttons Bay School Board, Suttons Bay Township Board and continues in his role as the longest serving member of the Suttons Bay Township Planning Commission. Don also served on the Leelanau County Agricultural Alliance, formed in 1997, to address the issues facing farm community. Cherry Bay Orchards donated the development rights on one of their farms along the County Road 633 agricultural corridor where a number of other farms have been protected by the Conservancy.  The Gregory family also hosted the 2014 Leelanau Conservancy Annual Picnic at their “Top of the World” site. Don and Ann have four children. Their youngest, Emily Miezio, and her husband, Mark, are partners in the farming operation. Don says, “We are here on this earth for only a very short time. I feel blessed to be a small caretaker of our Lord’s creation. Our goal is to leave our land in an improved condition.”
